What's Blooming in YOUR Garden?

Here’s the bloomers in mine today…

Aesculus parviflora - Bottlebrush Buckeye. This bush has really taken off this year… filling the space nicely, and has a nice form from a distance…
I’ll just note for the record that I have been piling some yard trash (future compost) around it just to have a place to put it.

Eupatorium Maculatum, Joe Pye Weed. This is a wildflower of course, but it is just what we needed in at the corner of the house. Something nice and tall (as viewed from the street). These blooms are just now breaking out. We have a few other wildflowers in the garden, but I’m on the hunt for more.

Hosta 'Blue Angel’. This one is winding down. Some of the other varieties are still in full swing and one is just now blooming. August is the time to divide hostas, just after their bloom cycle is complete. I’m going to lift and divide this monster in a week or two, and put the division back in our wooded area somewhere. Definitely a happy camper in this spot. There is an excellent article about how to divid hostas here: http://perfectperennials.tripod.com/id8.html

Rosa 'Double Knock Out’ is putting out its second flush of roses...

Roxanne (Roxanne Steed Fine Art) is taking pictures today too! Sunflowers and Crocosmia 'Lucifer' - Montbretia. There is a purple butterly bush on the right, and STILL a few Papaver Rhoeas (Poppy- American Legion) (mixed with zinnias) in the foreground.

This is a smaller version of Crocosmia (Montbretia), "Distant Planet". I’m not sure how well this one is doing… seems small. Montbretia seems like a finicky plant to me. Its cousins, “Lucifer" right next door LOVE their spot, but did not thrive in two other places where I had them. We’ll see what happens to this one over time….

Rosa ‘Eden’ is having a few blooms…

Hydrangea paniculata Grandiflora - "Pee Gee" is going to be spectacular this year. It the only hydrangea that has put out anything after the winter killed off most of the old wood on all the others. Pee Gees do not depend on old wood for their blooms, so this one is off to the races….

That’s it here... What’s up where you live?
